Mazda CX-5
You've already had a quick sneak peek at the brand-new Mazda CX-5, but the Japanese automaker has published a new set of photos and videos of the small SUV while testing in Europe. While most images show the CX-5 in camouflage, we do get two new press pictures including a rear shot of the vehicle. The new CX-5 replaces the Tribute, which itself was a rebadged Ford Escape, as Mazda tries to go against the likes of the Toyota RAV4 and the VW Tiguan in the small/compact SUV market with a more appropriate and modern proposal.
Mazda has developed a pair of engines and transmissions under the brand's fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly Skyactiv Technology umbrella for the CX-5.
Powertrain options include a new 2.0-liter gasoline engine delivering around 165HP and a 2.2-liter turbo diesel with about 170HP, while customers will be able to choose between six-speed manual and automatic transmissions.
In North America, the CX-5 will launch with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline unit, but according to a recent report, the diesel engine will also become available in 2013.
After its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show on September 13, the CX-5 will begin reaching dealerships around the world early next year.
